Mayflower Gulch

| One of my personal favorite spots is Mayflower Gulch. For those of you who have never been there, it's approximately 6.1 miles south of the I-70 & Copper Mt exit, on Highway 91, only a couple miles from the summit of Fremont Pass, and goes into the west side of the Tenmile Range.
The trailhead/parking lot is directly off the highway, and from there, it’s approximately 1.7 miles up a snow packed road to the old Boston Mine ruins at 11,500’, and in my opinion, one of the coolest views around. If there hasn’t been any recent fresh snow, the road will most likely be OK for warm hiking boots, but I would highly recommend snowshoes or skis, especially for when you get up to the end, where the snow will definitely be deeper. The hike up is a nice stroll, going through the trees, past a few old mine buildings, and gaining about 580’ of elevation over those 1.7 miles. Once at the end of the road, you come out of the trees and into a large u-shaped bowl surrounded high, jagged peaks. Gorgeous! Fletcher Peak and the adjoining ridge catch the evening light. There are several old ruined buildings, one of which still has the roof on, which comes in handy for going in and getting out of the wind if necessary. They also make nice subjects to shoot. |

| This is the road on the way up, approximately 1.7 miles from the trailhead to the open area where the mine ruins are. Unless there is recent fresh snow, the road is usually pretty tramped down by ski and snowshoe traffic. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The road comes out of the trees just left of the cabin, into this incredible open bowl. This image is looking directly west towards the backside of Copper Mountain ski area. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| This is the one old cabin that actually still has a roof. It's not much to look at on the inside, but it's nice to have a place to get out of the wind if needed. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The next four are from the best sunset I've seen there. Makes me want to go back soon. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
